Restore your Word document

Have you been unlucky? Here is 10 tips to restore your document.

This may be the salvation for those who have accidentally deleted or misplaced your Word document.
lostword

Have you accidentally deleted your work? Or do you have saved it somewhere without remembering where? Maybe the power went down? Before you frantically start to send e-mail to the employer or teacher, you can try Steps below.
The important thing to understand is that if you delete something, it will not actually be deleted. It will be lying and waiting to be overwritten. Thus, the best way to restore a deleted file to find it immediately, before it is overwritten. It is also important not to operate much on the PC in the meantime, as this increases the likelihood that the file will be overwritten.

1. Search document
Click Start -> Search -> All files and folders. Search for all or part of the file or only *. doc to find all Word documents. Remember to click More advanced options and uncheck the Search hidden files and folders.

2. Check the Recycle Bin
Open the Recycle Bin and look through the files contained there. If you find the file, right-click it and select Restore. If you are not sure where it was placed after the restore, perform a search on the file name.

3. Hope on automatically through the correction
Sometimes, when Word crashes, it will save what you're doing. Open Word. If a box with automatically recovered documents appear, double-click on your document and then immediately save it.

4. Search automatically recovered documents
You can make a manual search for automatically recovered documents. This is done in the same way as step 1, but by using the extension *. asd  *. doc instead.

5. Check the original location for the backup
If you have set Word to automatically backup your documents, it is still a chance here. In Word, select File -> Open, and ensures that all files option is selected. Navigate to the folder you think you saved the document and open. Wbk file if it is there.

6. Search for automatic backup
You can make a manual search for automatic backup of files. This is done in the same way as step 1, but by using the extension *. wbk *. doc instead.

7. Search for temporary files
A search for temporary additions made in the same way as step 1, but by using the extension *. tmp instead of *. doc. You will get many results, you should then change the option When was it modified?.

8. Search for unique temporary files
Some temporary files are unique. Search for ~ *.* this time.

9. Open the location of temporary files
This is a hidden folder, then use Explorer. Select Start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> Windows Explorer. Go to C: / Documents and Settings / your username / Local Settings / Temp. Open the file if you find it there.

10. Use of software
If none of the above steps worked is the tenth step is to take advantage of third-party software to restore the file

Try Chrome OS already now

Easy to install in a virtual machine.

Google's upcoming operating system for the first series of mini-notebook, Chrome OS, can already be tested on the regular PCs. It assumes however that you have installed a virtualization solution with support for the VMware virtual disk format, VMDK. This includes many of VMware's own products, but also Sun's VirtualBox, which is freely available for all major operating systems.

What one must do to get started with Chrome OS in this way is to download a VMDK file with Chrome OS that has been set together by Dave Schumaker, community manager for this GDGT. The file is available on this page, but it requires that one registers as a GDGT user before you can download the file, which is ZIP-packed and is about just over 300 megabytes.

The file is put into use by creating a new virtual machine in the virtualization solution to use and then select VMDK file when you come to the dialogue about creating virtual hard disks.
On this page, Schumaker said that in the network settings you must select the "bridged" mode and not "NAT". ChromeOS_settings

We logs normally into the Chrome OS with the same username and password on Gmail and other Google services. But when I tried with VirtualBox, I was notified that the web access was not established.

Having dug a little, I found that the change to NAT mode, however, as well as to login with the username "Chronos" and blank password, I came into the new operating system. There I could enter our regular login information and was able to access the browser-based application environment.

On a laptop with a relatively weak, dual-core processor processor without hardware support for virtualization, it took about 12 seconds to get to the login window. Then, it took 6.7 seconds before the user interface was ready to use.

The Chrome OS userinterface is mainly composed as the Browser Chrome.

2.If there is not Youtube.com in the text field, type it.
3.Click SSL Encryption.
4.Click on the "Hide My Ass".
5.Search after the movie that is blocked, and point to it.
6.Now the movie could be played.

Method 2: (requires HTML code is enabled):

1.Find the video id for the video with hidemyass.com.
2.Go to http://208.65.153.238/v/ * VideoID here * (VideoID are letters and numbers for v = in videourl).
3.Click play.
Method 2 is not fully tested because I have failed to find a video in which HTML code is activated and which are blocked.

Method 3:

bilde22212

If you not like any of the methods above, or think they are too cumbersome, so you can use Hotspot Shield. Hotspot Shield hides your IP address, so you can both see and search the videos that should be blocked.

If you have not found a video that is blocked, you can go through the videos to Universal Music Group, where all the videos is blocked.

Are you tired of youtube you can try out MTVMusic.com, or Spotify.

Make your XP Home to an XP Pro!

If you now sit there and pout over having a sad Windows XP Home Edition, you can turn it into a Windows XP Professional if you prefer it.

I show you how to do a Windows XP Home Edition installation disk into a genuine Windows XP Pro by changing 2 bytes. You must use SP2 or SP3 for this to work.

win-xp-home-edition-1  win-xp-pro-1

This is How your Windows XP Home Edition is going to be a XP Professional:

1. Copy the main folder (root) and the folder "i386" of the Windows XP CD
to your hard drive

2. Extract the boot sector from the installation disk (CD)

3. Change 2 Bytes in i386 \ Setupreg.hiv:

1.Open Regedit:

2.Mark HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE

3.Menu: File -> Load Structure -> i386 \ Setupreg.hiv

4.Make a random name to the imported structure e.g. "Homekey"

5.Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ Homekey \ ControlSet001 \ Services \ setupdd

6.Edit the binary key "default" and change "01" to "00" and "02" to
"00"

7.Mark "Homekey" and go to menu: File -> Unload structure
4. You can now burn out the new Windows XP Pro CD.

5. Install Now, Windows XP Pro, as usual, then your XP Home Key will work in the Pro version.

I take no responsibility for errors that would occur when using this method.

How to Slipstream Service Pack 3 into Windows XP

Slipstreaming Service Pack 3 into a Windows XP installation CD. Windows XP Service Pack 3 (SP3) includes all of the previous updates, hotfixes and security updates to date, rolled into one simple package. By Slipstreaming Service Pack 3 into your Windows installation disk, you will have all hotfixes and updates already efficiently integrated. This means that you will have virtually no updates left to do via Windows Update after performing a fresh install of Windows XP.

Note: Your original Windows XP CD must have at least service pack 1 already integrated for this tutorial to work. For most people this isn't an issue as the Windows XP CD's that have been sold over the past several years already include SP1 and even SP2 in many cases.

How to Slipstream Service Pack 3 into Windows XP:

1.Insert your Windows XP installation disk

2.Download the Official Service Pack 3 from Microsoft

3.Download and install nLite

4.Navigate to Start -> Programs -> nLite and click nLite to launch the program.

5.Click Next. Once you arrive at the Locating the Windows installation page, click   Browse and select the drive where your Windows XP installation disk is located:

nlite-wincd

6. Next, nLite will ask you where to save the CD installation files for modification, click OK.

nlite-save-loc

7. Now you need to create a folder to save to and work from. Click the Make New Folder button, type in a folder name, and click OK.

nlite-browse-folder1

8. Next, nLite will attempt to copy all files from the Windows installation disk to the folder you have created. Once it has finished, click Next.

Change the speed of preview In Windows 7

Increase the speed of the preview of the programs in the taskbar

In the taskbar in Windows 7 We have the preview of the programs running. In this guide, I are increasing the speed at which the preview appears.
The default setting in Windows 7 is 400ms delay from moving the mouse pointer over an open program, a preview of the active window will appear. In this guide we will increase the speed on this, so that the preview shows up much faster.

Important: This guide is based on a change in the Windows registry. If you are unsure about this, you should not perform procedures, or get someone else to help you. You may want to backup the registry before you proceed.

Your own Web portal On 1-2-3

With GuppY

Are you one of those who want your own website or web portal, but find that it freezes because you do not have your own home area, or that you can anything about HTML, PHP and MySQL, or want to spend any money on this? Then GuppY can be for you.

GuppY is a free web portal distributed under the GPL open source and does not need a separate database such as MySQL. With this, anyone who has a home range with support for PHP via their Internet service provider have their own user forum, poll, guestbook, and that other users can post their own news, links, images, etc. without using a separate database.

guppy portal

With regard to safety, appearance and performance is not GuppY the most attractive gateway and can not be compared to other portal solutions such as PHP-Nuke, XOOPS, e107, and the like, but as a simple alternative to it’s OK. It can also be nice to use as a site for a small sports club, association or fan club.
Via Admin area you can configure the look and placement of various elements such as news box, calendar, search box, user preferences, etc.

Some of the features can be found in GuppY:

• User Login
• News
• Multilingual
• Links
• Download
• Archive
• Guestbook
• Forum
• FAQ
• Poll
• Teller
• Newsletter
• Admin Area
• Search function

How to get started

To test GuppY I created an account with www.1go.dk that offer free web hosting with support for PHP and with a storage of 5MB. Storage space is too small to run the portal where real, but as a test it is good enough for a test site.
After a few minutes ended an e-mail in my inbox where I had to activate my new Web hosting. When the activation was done, it was just waiting for my website was created and wait for another  e-mail that contains all the information I need to set up my new hosting. This can take up to 30 minutes. For my part, it took only 2 minutes.
Now remains to download GuppY web portal and transfer this via FTP to my new Web hosting.

Download GuppY 3.0p3

Transfer via FTP

Once it is downloaded, extract Mon guppy.zip out to a folder and then transfer everything that is inside the folder to the web hotel via an FTP program.
Now copy or move the files no.gif, no-admin.inc, no-web.inc to this location: inclang
To transfer the site to my new hosting I use only Internet Explorer (IE). Of course you can use your own FTP client, but IE does the job. My FTP address is as follows:
ftp://ftp-guppy-1go:passord @ ftpfree.1go.dk (where "password" is my chosen password)
When the transfer is done, you can surf to your new home page and then log into the Admin area using the default password "pass". This password should be changed to a special password immediately after login.

On his own

Now it's up to you and your imagination and commitment on how the page looks like. You can change text and images as you want, and add your own logo. If one is willing to put some time in this one can get a pretty personal homepage,

Dual Boot Windows 7 with XP or Vista

If you want to test Windows 7 without having to remove Windows XP or Vista so you can configure your PC to dual boot with Windows 7 this guide shows you how.
To set up your PC with Windows 7 without removing the existing installation of Windows XP or Vista so just follow the recipe below. The result is that you will have the opportunity to choose to boot either your existing XP / Vista Setup or Windows 7 in the boot of your PC.
Do the following:
  • Download and burn to DVD.
  • Partition hard disk.
  • Before you can install Windows 7 is the first thing you must do to create a new partition on your hard disk that Windows 7 will be installed to. How do you partition your hard drive will vary depending on whether you have Windows XP or Vista from the latter has a partitioning tool built in.
  • Partitioning in Windows XP:
To partition the drive in Windows XP, you need to download a third-party tools. There are a number of possibilities. I recommend the free tool GParted Live CD, a free tool that supports partitioning for both Windows XP and Vista.
  • To use the GParted Live CD, download it, burn it to a CD and boot your PC from the CD (boot from CD). You will now go straight into the partitioning tool. This is a relatively simple procedure:
# Change the size (Resize) on your current operating system disk to make room for a   Windows partition 7. The minimum requirement is 16 GB.
# Create a new partition (Create) from the newly freed space.
# Make the changes.

win7dualboot1 whit xp

Partitioning in Windows Vista:

Developer in Redmond was straightforward enough to include a disk-partitioning tool in Vista that can shrink the size of a disk to make room for a new partition.

1. Right-click the Computer icon and select Manage. Alternatively, go to Control Panel- System and Maintenance (skip this if you have "Classic" view) - Administrative Tools - Computer Management.

2. Then go to Disk Management.

3. Right click the partition you want to shrink and click Shrink. Remember that Windows 7 will need 16GB of free disk space to allow them to install.

4. When you are finished with this operation, right-click on the job (Unallocated) space and select New Simple Volume. (It is the same as the primary partition and is necessary for you to boot from it).

5. Format the drive to the end and you're ready for the installation of Windows 7.
win7dualboot
Installation of Windows 7

Now that you've been away a couple of heavy lifting so it's time with a little plank drive: Installation of Windows 7 on our new partition. Then insert the Windows 7 DVD and restart your computer again to boot from your DVD. Adjust the setup in the BIOS if it is not possible.
Windows 7
When the DVD starts up then just follow the relatively simple installation wizard.
NOTE: When you select installation system  so be sure to choose Custom (advanced) and select the partition you set up in advance. Be sure that you select the correct partition!
Once this is done and install authorization is running so you can clean up around your screen in the meantime. The installation program will run through some operations and restarting a few times in the process. Eventually you will be asked to set up an account, enter the license key and configure Windows before Windows 7 is ready for use.
Choice of operating system

Now when you start up your PC (again) so you will have the option to choose between your previous Windows version and Windows 7.
win7dualboot_xp
So then you have  had in place dual boot feature so you can switch between your existing Windows installation and Windows 7
This is not the only way to set up the ability to boot multiple operating systems on a PC, but this variation is based on free accessible tools and works just fine. Do you have a simpler variation to come up with so feel free to add a comment to this Guide.

Check whether you are ready for Windows 7

Check if your computer is compatible.
    Windows 7upgrade-advisor

Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor is a program that simply checks if your computer is compatible with Windows7. In addition to controlling the hardware, the program also checks all the accessories and software you have installed.
The program determines whether Windows 7 has drivers for accessories, and whether there are any known issues with the applications you have installed.
Microsoft has also launched a new online service called Windows 7 Compatibility Center. The service consists of a searchable database where you can manually search for the various programs and hardware accessories to see if they are compatible.
If the service has a compatibility problem the computer suggests how to resolve the issue. It also checks for updated drivers for a particular accessory. Users can participate and propose solutions to various problems.

What you need to know to start using Linux

There are thousands of Linux distributions, but you are a beginner, I recommend to start with a distribution that has a good user network that can help you, and who has the most used applications installed by default. A good choice might be Ubuntu. Ubuntu is also available in several variants, whene I thrive best with Kubuntu. You can  test out the deployment on a LiveCD. These can be downloaded free from the net and tested without installing anything on your Computer.
Just Serch Google after Linux Live CD
    edubuntulogokubuntulogo
    ubuntulogoxubuntulogo

    Files and folders

If you use Windows you should know that the Linux user can not drive letters (eg C:). Everything is under the "root" (presented as /). Under the root it may be called the mounting points that point to another medium or partition. For example, you can find the CD drive under / media / cd-rom, and maybe a separate disk that is mounted as / home (home directories, equivalent to C: \ Documents and Settings \ on Windows).
    files_folders_linux_windows

Otherwise the files and folders mainly is the same way on Linux as on Windows. Linux has no registry as Windows have, but all of the settings are in the files. Easily. One thing that is worth to bite mark in is that the files and folders are case-sensitive. " That is, if you type "MyFile" or "myfile" is not the same.
Rights of the files is also easier in Linux. A file can be readable, writable and executable. Hiding files and folders do to give them names that start with ".".
As you may already have noticed using Linux "/" and not "\" to separate folders. This is not that Linux goes against the standard. On the contrary, Unix-variants used this long before Windows was intended.
At the root directory you will find some folders that can be handy to know. Here is a list of what they called and what they contain:

    • / sbin - binaries (executable programs) that are essential to get   the system to run

    • / bin - binaries (executable programs) as both administrator and normal users access to run.

    • / boot - Contains files that are important for the start up of the system, including linux kernel.

    • / dev - Even with disks, partitions, sound cards, media and other devices are represented by files in Linux.  Under / dev you will find them all. Drives are usually represented as / dev / hda, / dev / hdb, / dev / hdc and so on (or / dev / sda, / dev / sdb, / dev / sdc), CD-ROM as / dev / cdrom and sound card as / dev / dsp. Drives and media that are represented here must first be fitted up for that one should be able to see files in there (see / media and / mnt below)

    • / etc - Configuration files for the system. This corresponds to about the registry in Windows.

    • / home - Home Areas (similar to C: \ Documents and Settings \ on Windows). Here you will find a folder for each user on the system.

    • / lib - Shared libraries (similar to DLL and OCX files in Windows).

    • / lost + found - If the system the unlikely event snout there will be initiating a filecheck during startup. Corrupt files that are found will be restored to this area.

    • / mnt (and / media) - Here is mounted file systems. There is no limit to where you can mount the file systems on Linux, but you should for the sake of clarity use this folder. On some distributions are also used / media mount point. When primarily for removable media like CD-ROM, DVD or floppy disks.

    • / opt - Here you will find programs that are not included as standard. Sometimes also used / usr to this.

    • / proc - system and applications status at any time is here.

    • / root - This is the root (administrator user) their home area.

    • / tmp - Temporary files.

    • / usr - applications for users. / usr / doc contains documentation for the system and / usr / source / linux contains the source code (see below) to the linux kernel.

    • / var - files that change frequently are often located here, such as email, logs and files that are sent to the printer.

Actually you will not have to go around to remember all these. A minimum is that you know of / home, where to store your files.

    Users and Groups

Users and groups works much like as Windows. You can not do anything unless you are a member of any groups. For example, you must be a member of the group cdrom to access the cd / dvd player on your computer. There is only one user who has full rights to everything, and it's root.
If you are a member of the admin group you can still perform typical root-tasks by "temporarily become root". In Ubuntu this is usually automatic when you are prompted for your password again those times when you will conduct a root-task. If you use the console use the command sudo (superuser do) to temporarily become root.

    Applications

One thing you must realize at once. Linux distributions are based on free software and most of the software you find will also be there. Examples of free software, Firefox, OpenOffice.org and Gimp. If you have not been so much away for free software you will need to put yourself in the names of the programs and what they used to. The best is perhaps to look at a list of Windows programs and similar programs on Linux.
Ubuntu (if we stick to it) contains a ton of software as standard. It is generally a minimum of software you will need to install after, because what you need is already there.
Many have an idea that it is so incredibly complicated to install applications on Linux. It is completely wrong! Mostly you can install applications and libraries using ready-made software packages. These software packages are often located on a mirror package (a collection of software packages for a distribution). True an interface (Synaptic in Ubuntu) can you just go in and tick the applications you want to install. If a software package depends on that you have a couple of libraries installed, you do not need to think about it once, for this install it automatically. Dependency between packages namely handled automatically. The upgrade of all applications and operating system is done via the same interface.
Can not find the program you want to install here, you can often download an application package from a website. These are not the MSI package, EXE files or CAB packages that we have in Windows, but often have file extensions. Deb. For SUSE and RedHat used a different type of software packages with extensions. Rpm. These can be downloaded to run as you would on Windows.

    Support

If you're still stuck, you know you can get lots of help for free via the Internet. There are lots of forums, IRC channels, blogs and wiki's on the Web where you can find information. Please check out the homepage of the distribution first, for there are often lots of links to other sources. Ubuntuguide.org is a good place to start looking for common tasks you might need to do in Ubuntu.
    bash_screenshot
If you have a specific problem You may also want to search for the error message / problem in Google before you ask elsewhere.
Many people will probably call me a geek for this, but still: Learn to use the command line. It is not necessary to use Linux distributions as Ubuntu, but until you've learned a fraction will see the benefit of it. Once you do something a bit special, it is advantageous to do it in a shell (console), and before you know it you have a black belt in sudo.
Another good reason to learn to use commands, the user interfaces are changing all the time. The commands are mostly the same from distribution to distribution. If you need help to correct the error, you will often find solutions that require you to use a shell, and when it may be advantageous to some basic commands.

Free Virtualization, Virtual Box from Sun

Virtual-box is a free program that easily allows you to create virtual machines.

The program is maintained today by the Software giant Sun Micro-systems as part to their Sun xVM virtualization platform. This will allow Virtual-box to be an application you can trust! Virtual-box runs on Linux, Mac OS X, OS / 2 Warp, Solaris, and Windows XP or Vista and now also Windows 7 but Windows 7 have it's oun system for this as you can read in earlier posts. That Virtual-box supports as many operating systems is in itself very impressive in my opinion.

    Using Virtual-box is very easy.

All that is required is basically a computer that has a little power, do you think that your computer is already slow, I think you should stay far away from Virtual-box and other virtualization software.
     Virtual-box From Sun
To start with, of course, is to download and install Virtual-box. You can visit the download page for Virtual-box to download the program, use Linux, you can probably download it via the package manager, or you can go directly to the download page for Linux version of Virtual-box. Note that the program comes in two versions, one with closed source and open source. If you are a home user who only want to test the program I would recommend going for the version with closed source software, this because it contains some features which version of open source have not yet.
When you do this you start Virtual-box, Then you will  in the program get a wizard that explains most of it. First you choose what you want the guest machine to be called is it Windows XP call it whit that name and you can optionally select which operating system you are testing the guest machine. Then comes a window where you choose how much memory you want the guest machine to have.

After that you must choose where and how you want to save the guest machine, either as a dynamic file that changes size according to how much you save on the guest computer or a fixed-size. The easiest way is to go for a dynamic file. Finally, select how big this file should be, you chose dynamic earlier this will be the maximum size of the file.
When you do this, select the ISO file to install the operating system is on, the alternative is to use a standard CD / DVD.
Start up the machine and the installation will now begin.

Other key features are worth mentioning:

         * Supports many different Guest Operating system.
         * Ability to use PAE.
         * Good performance.
         * Light Intelligent user interfaces.
         * Possible to share folders between the guest system  and the  main system.
         * You can save so-called "snapshots" that acts as the restore point.
         * Ability to VRDP that allows you to remotely control the guest systems.
         * Plus much more!

    Finally

I will say that I often use Virtual-box for testing of various applications and operating systems. This is because of that I can test out everything strange without having to worry that I am doing something wrong. Do you like to try and fail, this is definitely worth trying! This may be what it takes to, for example, learn Linux.
Virtual-box is the best virtualization Solutions for home user today in my opinion.

    Stop programs that freezes

    Stop programs that freezes.

    Problem solved with one click.

Rather than start the task manager and stop a program that does not respond, why not just create a shortcut on the desktop that do the same? I show you how.

TaskManager
To stop a program that does not respond, you have to get into the task manager at by clickong "Ctrl + Alt + Del", and stop the task from there. You can do this much easier, without going through the task manager, by creating a shortcut on the desktop.

    How-to

1.Rightclick on the desktop. From the menu select new text document.
2.Give the file a name 'taskkill.bat' - and make sure there is not any. Txt suffix at the end.
3.Click yes in the dialog box that asks if you are sure you want to change the file extension.
4.Rightclick that file and choose edit. This will open the notepad.
    5.Write in the following lines:
    @ echo off
    taskkill.exe / f / fi "status eq not responding"
    exit
    6.Save file and close Notepad.
When you discover that a program freezes / hangs, you can simply double-clicking 'taskkill.bat' and this file will end all programs that do not respond.

In addition to having it on your desktop, the file is portable. This means that you can place the file on a USB stick and use it on all Windows systems. You can also add the file to a keyboard combination, so you only need to press a button to start this process.

NOTE: This trick works on Windows XP Pro, all versions of Windows Vista and Windows 7 - but not Windows XP Home, because Taskkill.exe not installed on these systems.
