Twitter is now the fastest growing search service.

Twitter is the fastest growing search service on the internet today. This is the conclusion to Biz Stone Social Beat, after it became clear that Twitter handles over 800 million searches every day. This is over 24 billion searches each month and an increase of 33% since April this year.

In comparison, treated Bing 4.1 billion and Yahoo 9.4 billion searches each month, according to figures from December. Search giant Google is, however, in its own league, with 88 billion searches each month.

Bing was last year ranked as the fastest growing search service, according to a survey conducted by analyst Nielsen, but it now seems that Twitter has taken the lead.
According to Stone, this is because Twitter is no longer seen as a social network, in the same sense as Facebook. Twitter, however, is an information network and a news source, "says Stone.

Twitter introduced earlier a new strategy, which sponsored messages were displayed first in search results. Thus, this increase mean money in the fund for the website.
