Google buys search medicine

Snap up Metaweb, which made Microsoft Bing smarter.

When Microsoft relaunched its search engine under the name Bing in May last year, service was described as a decision engine.
The search results should make it easier for the user to make decisions. The answers should be smarter.

Medicine

New technology should serve as a medicine for "Search overloading", a kind of morbid state of Microsoft described as: confusion, caused by the search results that do not respond to user questions.
Google announced Friday that they have bought up the company Metaweb, which provides just some of the "medicine" Microsoft prescribes the Bing.
Using technology provided by Metaweb Bing has been able to provide answers to advanced questions. Microsoft is one of Metawebs reference customers.

This makes it among the other possible answers to your search terms such as "colleges on the west coast with tuition under $ 30,000" or "Actors over 40 Who Have Won the Least one oscar.
- The difficult search terms and we have purchased Metaweb because we believe it is possible to deliver better answers through working together, type Google in a blog post.

Metaweb said in turn that they will abide by all existing agreements, but says that it is not necessary to enter into new contracts with third parties for the acquisition by Google.

- In addition to ideas about search, we are also excited about the possibilities of the Free Base, Metawebs free and open database of over 12 million things, including movies, books, television shows, celebrities, places, and companies, according to Google.

The search giant said this database will be further developed, and encourage other companies to contribute. The hope is that their could be an important resource to make the web richer for all.

It is unclear how much Google pays for the technology.
