- 300 million will buy Windows PCs this year

Microsoft believes in high sales figures, but also that every six PCs will come with something else.

- This year, it sold more than 300 million PCs. It said the forecasts. Windows will be installed on 300 million of these PCs, said Kevin Turner, Chief Operating Officer at Microsoft, during a speech at the CeBIT conference in Hannover last week, according to Softpedia.com.

- The fact is, considering the success of Windows 7 has been in the market so far, the 300 million mark is a realistic goal, he added.

Turner said, however, nothing about how large a share of this will be Windows 7 licenses. Microsoft delivered 90 million Windows 7 licenses the first four months after the launch, which took place in late October last year. The figures include admittedly also licenses as ordered by the channel, but not yet sold to end customers.
Analysis company Gartner believes it will be sold 366.1 million PCs this year. This means that 66.1 million PCs will be equipped with a different operating system than Windows, according to Microsoft. Most of these will probably be Apple computers with Mac OS X. But the figures also include mini-notebook (netbooks), which Gartner believes will continue to contribute significantly to the increase in PC sales in 2010.
