Sharply increased earnings for Amazon.com

The accounts of the world's largest online store, Amazon.com, announced last night, according to a turnover of 9.52 billion dollars in the fourth quarter, 42 percent more than in the fourth quarter of 2008. Operating income increased 75 percent to 476 million U.S. dollars, while net profit increased by 71 percent to 384 million.

The financial statements for 2009 show 28 percent higher sales than in 2008, 24.5 billion dollars. Operating income increased 34 percent to 1.13 billion, while net profit increased 40 percent to 902 million U.S. dollars.

CEO Jeff Bezos makes no other comment than that "millions of people" now own a Kindle, that is the company's e-book player, and that Kindle owners read very much.

Amazon chief Jeff Bezos thinks the company's two-digit growth will last. - Where we offer both formats, we sell six Kindle books for every ten physical books, Bezos said.

How much this means in dollars is not out of the published accounts.

In the United States is over 410 000 books available for Kindle. In addition to the physical e-book readers, offered Kindle as reading programs for PCs and Apple devices iPod Touch and iPhone. Amazon promise Kindle applications in the near future for Blackberry, Mac, and Apple's new web board, iPad.
