Wikipedia loses volunteers

The English version of Wikipedia losing volunteers faster than new ones appear.

wikipedia  Wikipedia has grown tremendously over the past decade, thanks to the efforts of millions of volunteers who write, edit and correct your posts. New figures presented in Monday's edition of the Wall Street Journal, suggests that more writers do not want to help the encyclopedia that is now available in over 250 languages.

- Disappears frequent

Over 49 000 authors in the course of the first three months of this year opted to leave the English-language edition of Wikipedia. According to figures compiled by the Wall Street Journal, this is a dramatic increase since the same period last year, where only 4 900 authors chose to separate out the website.

- Wikipedia still has over 3 million active contributors, but the volunteers lost more frequently than new ones appear, says Felipe Ortega, who is working to analyze the Wikipedia data.

One of the reasons that donors may choose to leave Wikipedia, the dispute with other authors that contribute to the same articles. Although it is set up rules for how to relate to other people who contribute on the same pages as the author himself, experiencing that their contributions will be removed without warning.
