Net giants adopt "open web" agreement

Will make it easier to secure users against patent and copyright requirements.
Open Web Foundation (OWF) recently launched a reusable agreement text, Open Web Foundation Agreement (OWFa), which easily could be adopted by communities and organizations that are behind the specifications of many kinds. The intention is to offer an alternative to having to negotiate licensing agreements in each case.

open web dealOWF was established in summer 2008 with the purpose of making a home for community-driven specifications.

The agreement is designed to be used with relatively stable specifications and specifications that are deemed ready to use or are already being used.

Attributes that are made available under OWFa can include everything from small ad-hoc formats outlined among friends, to the extensive cooperation between several companies that grow on to become internationally accepted standards.

OWFa affirming the copyright and patent rights to a specification, which will ensure that users further down in the ecosystem can freely implement and reuse the licensed specification without having to apply for further permission.

In addition to the agreement, Open Web Foundation also made a more easy to read overview of the agreement text.

In connection with the launch of the agreement text, it was also known that include Facebook, Google, Microsoft and Yahoo is committed to using the agreement with a total of ten different specifications.
