Firefox 3.6 is scheduled to released during the current quarter, and the 15 October is the scheduled release date for the first beta version. This is admittedly a few weeks later than it was scheduled in August, but probably not enough to delay the release worth mentioning.
Firefox 3.5 was more than half a year delayed on the way.
The upcoming version is a much smaller update to the browser than the version 3.5 was. Most this time involves optimizations of the performance, as well as better integration with Windows 7 and to prepare for future technologies, such as a Compositor.
It has also been promised that the function of the restoration of the working sessions will be made more efficient, and that the automatic completion of forms should be improved.
Firefox 3.6 will be based on version 1.9.2 of the presentation engine Gecko.
It will also get updates to the official versions of Firefox. Both versions 3.5.4 and 3.0.15 will be released on 21 October. These versions will likely only include stability and security fixes.
