Facebook doubles the datacenter

Changes the building plans for tremendous growth.

The social community Facebook is about to build its own data center, to handle the growing data traffic.
The building is under construction in the U.S. state of Oregon, and is scheduled to be completed early next year.
But already long before the line cut plans had changed.

The data center was originally measured more than 13 600 square meters. This turns out not to be near the place the privately owned company needs.

Facebook recently passed half a billion registered user profiles and is growing further. There are 100 million more just since February.
Traffic increase means that they must now expand the server space further.

The building will be doubled to at least 28,500 square feet through a new phase. The first stage is scheduled to open first quarter of next year, while the rest will be ready in early 2012, according to Facebook.

Until the data center is ready for rent website server space with different suppliers spread across the United States. Facebook has created a fan site for those who want to follow the development that takes place in Prineville, Oregon.
