Was not 3-series
Many believed upcoming Nvidia graphics card was to be their 3-series, but so are the not.
The video card from Nvidia based processor code-named Fermi (Or GF100), will soon be sent out to the shops and there are great expectations for the video cards from Nvidia now, as it has taken so long. The cards have been under the knife "for eternity", in relation to AMD's 5-series which was launched already last year. But now it has loosened for Nvidia, and first out is the top models, it seems, as AMD also did it with their video cards.
4-series
In this connection must be cards have a name, and first out is thus GTX 480 and GTX 470. Nvidia jumps ie over 3-series with its new video card, to avoid confusion and to show that it is something completely new it comes with. Nvidia's known already released budget card in the 3-series, which, strictly speaking, only a name change on existing budget cards to increase sales somewhat.
The specifications that are known from Nvidia 4-series is not all the world, but are as follows:
* 512 shade cores
* 384bit GDDR5 memory controller
* DirectX 11 Support
* 40nm transistor size
* Over 3 billion transistors together (ATI's latest 5-series has 2.2 billion)
It seems that Nvidia will soon launch its latest video after many delays, and it remains to be seen whether they can win back both the popularity and performance throne that ATI has been in possession for some months now.
