Office 2010 Now In Public Beta

One step closer to launch

Microsoft has announced Office 2010 and SharePoint 2010 can be expected as a public beta from November.

The next version of Microsoft Office is expected to be in the public beta version from November, said CEO Steve Ballmer.

It was under the Microsoft SharePoint Conference in Las Vegas that Ballmer spoke about Office 2010. SharePoint Server 2010 and Office 2010 will either go out in public beta in November. The products have already been available as a technical beta since July for a handful of people.

According to Ballmer's SharePoint 2010 is the largest and most important version of SharePoint ever. Combined with Office 2010 it will increase efficiency dramatically for corporate users.

The work on this version of Office has been ongoing since 2006, while Microsoft was in the final phase of Office 12, which in 2007 was released as Microsoft Office 2007. Office 2010 will hold the version number 14, and it is clear that they have skipped version 13 - the salt granules only reasons.

The new Office package comes in the following editions:

• Office Home and Student (Word, Powerpoint, Excel and OneNote)
• Office Home and Buisness (Word, Powerpoint, Excel, OneNote and Outlook)
• Office Standard (Word, Powerpoint, Excel, OneNote, Outlook and Publisher)
• Office Professional (Word, Powerpoint, Excel, OneNote, Outlook, Publisher and Access)
• Office Professional Plus (Word, Powerpoint, Excel, OneNote, Outlook, Publisher, Access, SharePoint,
  WorkSpace and Infopath)

Office 2010 will also get an online edition, named Office Web, which is a free and advertising-based version. For the first time will also office application be released in both 32 - and 64-bit edition.

Earlier this year, it was leaked photos of the Office 10 version, but this was in a so-called Technical Preview.
The launch of Microsoft Office 2010 is expected in the first half of 2010.
