Focus on performance in the next version of Google's browser.

Google came in yesterday with the first beta version that by all indications will end up as Chrome 2.0. The version number of the new edition of 2.0.170.0.

Beta version should in practice be the same as version 2.0.169.1, which was released to the eager testers last week. The difference is that the beta version has been thoroughly tested.

According to this blog post will be the new version have significantly improved JavaScript performance than the stable 1.0-release. According to Google shows tests Sunspider and V8 Benchmark Suite a performence of between 25 and 35 percent, compared with today's release of Chrome 1.0.

Chrome 2.0.169.1 did it very well in the Future Marks Peace Keeper-test, but the performance difference between this release and the stable release (1.0.154.48) was not greater than eight percent in this test.

Beta version also includes some new functionality, including automatic completion of forms, zooming of entire pages, and auto scrolling. Several of these features have come into place thanks to a new version of the open source-based presentation engine WebKit, that Chrome uses.

Beta version also makes it possible to drag tabs out of the desktop, so they open in a new window that can be displayed side by side with the original window.
